Fall is the Perfect Season for Planting!

Give your garden a head start with fall planting – strong roots today, thriving growth tomorrow!

🪴Fall is hands down one of the best times to plant trees and shrubs in your garden. The cooler temps and extra rain give new plants the chance to settle in and grow strong roots before winter hits. Even though the air cools off, the soil stays warm longer, which really encourages root growth. By planting in fall, your trees and shrubs get a head start for spring – they’ll already be comfy in their new spot and ready to take off when warmer weather returns.

When you're planting, pick hardy varieties that can handle the winter chill, and native plants are always a good bet since they’re already used to the local climate. Make sure to dig a hole wide and deep enough for the roots, and give them a good soak after planting to help them settle. A layer of mulch around the base will also insulate the roots and keep the moisture in.

Fall planting also lets you avoid the stress of summer heat and dry spells, giving your new trees and shrubs the best chance to grow. Just make sure to get them in the ground a few weeks before the first big frost. Come spring, you’ll be rewarded with healthy, rooted plants that are ready to burst into new growth!
